1. Late-night visitor:

"I woke during the night when my son was about 3, and heard him whimpering, like he was talking to someone. 

I went into his room and he was sitting upright in his bed, staring at the doorway, where I was standing.

 I went to him, saying his name, but he never answered and his stare never wavered from the doorway. 

By this time I was really worrying, so I started shouting his name, hoping to snap him out of it. All of a sudden, he said 'what,' still not looking anywhere else but the doorway.

 I asked, 'Who are you looking at?' He turned to look at me and said, 'The man in the doorway.' Then he laid back down and was fast asleep." —Rebecca Sargerson

1.     늦은 밤의 방문객

아들이 세 살이었을 때, 나는 밤에 아들이 훌쩍이며 말하는 소리를 듣고 잠에서 깼음.

마치 누군가에게 말하는 것 같았음.

아들 방으로 들어갔더니 아들은 내가 서 있는 문 쪽을 보며 똑바로 앉아 있었고

내가 이름을 불렀는데도 전혀 알아듣지 못하고 계속 문 쪽만 응시함

나는 놀라고 걱정되어서 아들 이름을 외치다시피 불렀더니

아들은 여전히 문 쪽을 응시하면서 “왜?” 라고 짧게 답함

그래서 “뭘 보는거니?” 라고 묻자,

“문가에 서 있는 아저씨”

그리고는 다시 누워서 잠들어 버림…

 

 

2. The surgeon-in-training:

"My daughter and I were reading on the couch one Sunday morning. 

It was raining outside. We were wrapped up warm in a blanket. She had a cup of tea. 

I had that perfect Americano. Life was good. My daughter looked up at me and said, 'Dad, when you die can I cut you open and look inside?'

 I choked a bit on my coffee. My wife simply turned around and did an about-face and walked back upstairs.

2.     수련중인 외과의사

“아빠, 만약에 아빠 죽으면 내가 아빠 열어서 안에 봐도 돼?”

나는 커피를 뿜을 뻔 했고, 아내는 흘낏 뒤돌아 보았다가 다시 위로 올라갔다.

나는 ”물론이지” 라고 대답했고, 딸은 나를 향해 미소지었다.

 

 

 

 

3. The sixth sense:

"The other week, I was reading my 2-year-old daughter a bedtime story. 

When we finished, we were talking about been scared of ghosts, monsters, trolls, etc. and she turned to me and said, 'Daddy, I'm not scared of ghosts.'

책을 다 읽고 나서 트롤이나, 괴물, 유령 같은 무서운 것에 대해서 이야기 하고 있을 때

딸이 말하길 “유령은 무섭지 않아요” 라고 함.

그래서 “왜?” 그랬더니

“전에 유령이 와서는 내 머리를 쓰다듬고 머릿결이 좋다고 했거든요”

 

 

4. The vague threat:

"My friend was babysitting two girls, 3 and 5 years old. 

The older one drew a painting of her family in front of her kindergarten, and a brown, curly haired girl (which happens to be what my friend looks like...) kind of above the other people she drew. 

So my friend asked her, 'Hey, is that me? Did you draw me?' and the 5-year-old answers,

5. Self-defense:

내 딸 친구의 아빠인 이안이 딸을 데리러 우리집에 왔다.

이지가 답하길 ”네 그럼요, 알죠. 왜냐면 펜은 목에다가 바로 꽂아 버릴 수 있자나요.”
